Weekend Getaway!

This past weekend Athaiah and I were able to have a mommy-daughter weekend.  I have never left one of the kids before, so I missed my little man(and the big man) a lot, but we had a ton of fun.  We flew into Chicago where my mom and step dad picked us up from the airport.  Then we got to drive to MI for the weekend(we were going home for one of my best friend's wedding showers)!  I got to see my brother Mike play a lacrosse game-I have never seen one and that was quite thrilling.  Although in the end I decided it is a very dangerous game with those sticks waving about.(you can tell I know a ton about sports... right??)  Then we chilled for the evening.  A nice break since we had been in car, in a plane, and then in a car again.  Athaiah did an amazing job handling all the traveling.  She melted a couple of times, but really not bad considering the amount of time she spend confined to a car seat in one day(this for a girl who never stops moving!).  I got to see my brother and some of our step cousins-such sweet people.  We grilled burger and brats and had a wonderful time.  So thankful to Rita for letting us crash at her place and for providing everything we needed to stay comfortable! Couldn't have had a better experience.
Sunday was our busy day...Athaiah woke up around 8:30 and we got moving for the day.  Quickly got ready and dressed and out the door.  We headed to my dad's house.  There we ate breakfast with my sister and my brother and of course my adorable stepsister.  It was so good to be able to relax with them, talk, and have a good time.  Church time was next, it was nice to be back at one of my old Church's and to see people that have known me for a life time!  My mother in law picked me up from there and we went back to Plymouth to meet up with the rest of my in laws.  It was so nice to see all those sweet kids!  Athaiah got a whole lot of love and snuggles and we saw a couple more people that we grew up with-always amazing to reconnect with the people you have known forever and who have helped shape you into who you are today.  What an amazing way to spend the morning.
Shower Time!! We went to a wonderful wedding shower for one of my best friends Sarah.  She will be getting married in like 8 weeks(for those of you not good with math-that is right around the time I'm due).  I wanted to go to this shower so bad, just in case we can't make the wedding since we have no idea when the baby is planning on arriving.  I had a great time getting to see her and her family.  I also go to spend some more time with my mom and sister which is just always so nice!  It was a wonderful shower and she got so many amazing gifts.  A well spent afternoon.  Now it is time to head back to Chicago-by chance the shower ended up being next to my old Timmies. For those of you who know me(and those who don't), couldn't have been better placed.  Before we got on the road we stopped for a coffee from my old work and man do I miss their coffee, I really need to talk them into getting some in Kansas.  To anyone who hasn't had their coffee you are really missing out, nothing like it in my opinion!(although I am partial to the place since I worked there for 5 years).
Sunday evening I finally got to see the baby of the family(who is nowhere near a baby anymore).  It was good to see her and spend some time with her.  We got to share a room that night-much better than how I remember it being!  But then again when she would sleep in my room(which was rare, but she liked to do that on occasion as a little monkey) we shared a twin sized bed and she kicked me most of the night.  I'm proud to say she didn't kick me once! Sorry had to share that, she was sweet little girl and is now such a sweet big girl and I really enjoyed getting to spend time with her like the good ol' days!
Monday it was back to Kansas we went. Our flight left early from Chicago.  Greg and I both had Monday off.  We went shopping in Wichita for the morning and then spent the afternoon around the house.  It was nice to have a day of family time after being away from each other.  It was also amazing to sleep in my own bed again-there is just something so nice about your own bed and I have yet to figure that out!  What an amazing and wonderful weekend.  Thank you to everyone who drove Athaiah and I around and let us bunk at their houses.  We couldn't have asked for a better weekend.  I would say girl/boy weekend was a success.  I know it was fast and we didn't get to see everyone, but I am thankful for those that we did get to see and spend time with!  Maybe next time the visit will be longer and we will all get to come!
PS. sorry for the lack of pictures-my camera wouldn't fit in my carry on so I have zero pictures from the weekend, bummer:(  I'm hoping I can bum a few off of some people.

32 Weeks

The time is flying by...I can't believe we are soo close to getting to meet our new little one.  The heart rate has stayed between 140 and 150 the past couple of weeks.  I feel like the baby has dropped quite a bit and that can be a good and bad thing.  Nice because I feel like I have a ton of room to breath(not that it was ever that bad, since I carry low anyway), bad because let's just be honest, I have to pee constantly!  We are measuring 32cm so we are right on target.  I have gained 25lbs so far.  I'm really hoping to stay 30lbs or under since with the other 2 I was under 30, but if we go over I'm honestly not too worried about it.  I keep day dreaming about what everything will be like, and how the kids are going to react when the new little one is born.  Athaiah doesn't seem to mind too much about the baby that kicks her-in fact she doesn't really pay attention to it.  Elijah is constantly talking to the baby, poking and prodding it so it will kick him.  I think they are go to be big buds when this one comes out as Elijah may talk to this little one more than anyone else!  I am excited to see what he thinks when the baby is unstuck!  Athaiah will most likely have her little princess heart broken as she is a big mommy's girl and still needs a lot of snuggles during the day, but I just keep praying that she will have an OK adjustment and that she is just building them all up now, so she can share me when the time comes!
We are praying for a good and safe delivery.  I have been doing a ton of research on everything labor related.  Yes I have 2 children, but both ended up coming C-section and I want to be prepared for what a more natural labor looks like, and what I can do to naturally speed things along and deal with pain-since they can't give me a lot of the meds(yes, I can still have an epidural but it slows labor down-I'm hoping to wait a bit longer before I have one, or maybe go without??) If you have any good suggestions they are always welcome here.
I have been looking up triple jogging strollers-they want your first born(at least that is what I have decided).  Man are they expensive.  I was hoping to get one so we can all go on walks together in the early morning, since my oldest two love to go on walks.  But we may just have to take them in the evening with daddy and when I go back to work they may just end up being a weekend occurrence!  I do have my moby wrap so for a bit I can walk with all of them, but I would like to get back to my interval training and I'm not so comfortable running/jogging with the baby in a moby wrap and pushing two in a stroller!  We shall see how that goes-I don't have to worry about that until much later anyway just trying to look ahead.
The bathroom is at a bit of a standstill, hopefully this weekend we will finish getting the drywall up. Anyone want to come help mud and sand? That is Greg's least favorite part and I can't really sand-although I will help him mud.  I'm excited to see it get finished and I'm really hoping it will be done before baby gets here...
We are looking forward to the McPherson College Car Show this weekend.  It is one of Greg's favorites because he used to help judge the cars every year that were placed in it.  I enjoy going because it is close to home and they usually have a decent amount of cars to see.  Elijah loves to look at cars, so I'm sure this year he will have a blast.  We had to miss last year as we were at an amazing wedding(so much more fun in my opinion), but Greg is happy to be home for it this year!

Steak and Onions

I am going to preface this by saying this is one of the best steaks I have ever made and it is great in the summer time when you would rather cook outside on the grill then inside!

1 10oz Sirloin(we always split one)
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
2 TBSP Warshester sauce
2 tsp A1 sauce
1 tsp McCormic girll mates for steak
1/4 c French Fried onions
1 small onion sliced
1 Tsp olive oil
1/4 c white cooking wine
1 tsp sugar

Garlic Butter:
1 garlic clove minced
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp thyme
4 TBSP butter softened

Alright now that we have all the ingredients(I know it looks like you need a lot, but I promise it is well worth it), we are going to start by marinating the steak.  Put the steak in a Ziploc bag or in a big bowl which ever you prefer and add the next 5 ingredients.  Let this marinate for at least an hour, but the longer the better, so if you want to get it ready the night before even better!

Next, we are going to caramelize the onion, so in a small sauce pan put the olive oil, white cooking wine, sugar, and onion. You are going to cook these until they are nice and caramelized, cook on a low heat and mix on occasion so it doesn't burn and stick to the pan.  If you need to add more olive oil as it cooks out go ahead, but don't drown it.  This takes about 20-30min, just so you are aware.

Depending on how you like your steak cooked that will be when you need to throw the steak on while your onions are caramelizing.  I like mine med rare, so I put it on when they have about 10minutes left.

Make your garlic butter, by combining all your ingredients together in a small bowl.

Now to assemble. Put the caramelized onions on the bottom of the plate, go get your steak off the grill and place on top of the onions.  While your steak is still hot put the butter mixture on top and then last but not least put the french fried onions on that.

This steak is to die for! At least in my opinion and I don't even really like onions.  This is my attempt at recreating the onion brewsky sirloin from Logan's Steakhouse.  My husband thinks it tastes better, but I'm sure he has to say that!

Getting ready for pictures...

I am getting ready to take Athaiah's 1 year pictures so I found a picture that I loved and the baby had a pearl necklace on!  Had. To. Have. One. Of course if you want one-you can never find what you are looking for and the thrift stores are too far away to keep driving there and looking for them all the time.  I couldn't find any in the jewelry departments...so per usual I decided to make my own.

In the craft area of walmart(I know, I know, but that is all we have in this little town) I found some fake pearls-they were even cream colored.  Problem was they were too short and I wanted a necklace we could wrap around her neck a couple of times.  Since they were $1 for a strand I bought 4!  I then bought that cheap stretchy floss.  Now, I could string them all together and make it be whatever size I wanted.  It only ended up being $5 so not too bad in my book! I only ended up using 3 strands, and to tie the end off since the stretchy stuff never stays tightly closed I put a dab of hot glue on the end, just to ensure that if she pulled on it-as we all know she will, it wouldn't fall into pieces.

Done! And so excited...

Next, she needed a headband-as every little girl does.  I also found at walmart some pale pink ribbon and some cream ribbon with roses already on it! Bonus in my book.  I had elastic at home, so that saved me some money!
I  made this sweet head band out of ribbon and hot glue, no sewing here today!
I bunched up the cream ribbon just a bit so that the flowers were a bit closer together, and then I made some really tiny pale pink rosettes to stick in between, so it had both the colors I wanted!  For the elastic I cut it about 1/4" shorter than what I needed it to be so it would stay on her little head.  I hot glued the edges together and made sure when I attached the ribbon it went over the connecting point so you wouldn't be able to see that in the pictures or while it was on her sweet little head!

So far that is all the crafting I have done to get her ready for pictures.  I will see if I come up with anything else as I'm not too sure what all the pictures will involve yet.  I was going to take pictures this weekend as it is supposed to be nice, but alas both kids have a cold!  I'm not feeling runny noses in the pictures...so we shall wait until maybe next week.  I still have to do Elijah's 2 year pictures, so I'm hoping I can find a good outfit for him to wear so I can get some good pictures of him as well while we are out taking pictures!

Family Sign..

I have seen signs all over Pinterest that say the family name and the year they were established.  I love these signs and have wanted one of my own.  I have had it in the back of my head for some time to get one or to at least have one that said family.

Finally I got to fulfill that dream!  May seem small to you, but I have this huge blank wall in my basement that desperately needed something.  This is the big wall that you see right when you walk down the stairs so it needed to be quite big.  I finally found a plank of old wood that would work.  I found this at a wonderful place in town called The Reuse It Center.  It has all kinds of stuff there...for the home..and it is a crafters dream come true.  You can get cheap materials and find all kinds of fun stuff to do with them.  I will post soon...hopefully of some other crafts/projects I'm working on with stuff from there!  If you live in town and you haven't checked this place out-you need to get your hinny over there right now, it is the bomb!

Ok back to the sign...I took this plank
I then researched types of caligraphy and found a T that I liked best to put in the middle.

Then I wrote when we were Established in the middle third... and our name in the other outside 2/3rds.  I'm really happy with how it turned out and I love the rustic feel.  Want to know the best part-it was $2 because I already had paint and that is what I paid for the plank!  Doesn't get better than that! Now I just need to find something to put under it.  Once the new baby gets here I would love a family picture printed on canvas...or transfered onto wood-I think those look neat!
I know this isn't the best picture, but this sign is 71" long-kind of hard to fit the whole thing in a picture, hence a far back picture of it-also the room is a mess because it has all the bathroom stuff in it while we are refinishing the bathroom!

Elijah turned 2!

Hahaha.... I was laughing at the title.  I just realized I never posted on his big second birthday.  Guess I'm a bit behind on things.  SO here it goes...sorry little man, I have been having so much fun playing with you I forgot to stop and write down the memories.  Here is goes...I hope I remember it all well as my pregnancy/mommy brain has really kicked into high gear these days!!

We got to go home for your birthday this year.  We had a cars themed party-thank you so much to my in laws for letting us have a huge party and their house and for providing all the food!  We couldn't have done it without you! It snowed that day, so some people couldn't make it-but you also got to play in the snow for the first time and you had a blast!

You got to see all your grandparents and 3 out of 4 sets of your great grandparents.
There was Mater on your cake and you were so excited that you had to take the car off the cake before you would even take a bit.  I don't know if you were more excited about the car or the cake!

You got to see balloons for the first time and you had so much fun playing with them and carrying them around the house it was hard to get you to put them down!

You got so many presents and were surrounded by so many people who love you.  We couldn't have had more fun.  You were so grateful and used such good manners-I wish we would have thought to get it on video.  At least we remembered to get pictures!!  Every present you pulled out you yelled thank you and ohhh! It was priceless.

I can't believe you are 2-where did my little baby go.  You are growing into such the little man!  I can't wait to see what God has in store for you.  I know you will go far and succeed at what you do.  You are a very determined little boy-with so much love to give everyone.  One of my favorite parts to the night was at the end when you had to go around to everyone at the party and give everyone a kiss(and no this was not prompted, you just love people that much).  I think you even made it around half the group a second time!  I love you little man!!

Happy Easter!

Like I said in my last post, I'm a bit behind!

Happy Easter from our family to yours! I hope you all had a great Easter and took the time to remember what it is really all about.  There is nothing better than your Savior dying and rising from the dead so that you may be saved!

We had a great day of family time.  The kids got very small Easter baskets that morning-one because who needs more junk, and two because well it's not really about getting stuff, it is about realizing what you are given! A wonderful opportunity unlike any other!

We colored eggs, it was Elijah's first time doing it and he really seemed thrilled.  Athaiah sat in the high chair next to him eating puffs.  I can't wait to see her expression next year, because I loved his!

We had a huge lunch of ham, cheesy potatoes, surprise rolls, strawberries, and some mixed veggies! So our dinner was on the light side and we had some waffles with berry sauce! The kids love to eat this for meals and I love it as well, because in my opinion you can never have enough fruit!

28 weeks!

I'm so overwhelmed with the thought that in just 3 months we will be welcoming another little bundle of joy to our bunch!  People think we are crazy...and sometimes so do I!  I love our crazy, busy, beautiful life.  I haven't had much time to post recently and I would really like to get better about it! So sorry to everyone. Hopefully I will get on board here soon-life just seems to be moving way to fast!

I think about this baby and I just get so excited.  Elijah is already such a good big brother and he is always trying to help with everything.  I can't wait to see him with another baby.  If you ask him what is in mommy's belly- he will proudly say "baby tuck(Stuck in Elijah lingo)" He knows there is a baby in there, but unfortunately for him at the moment it is stuck.  He will quite often pull up my shirt, knock on my belly, and say "hello?!, Baby stuck, luv eww, bye bye." He will then put my shirt back in place.  Nothing more precious to me than seeing him really enjoy getting to know the new baby.  He wants to play with the baby-and for the first time the other day he got to see and feel the baby move.  His response was priceless "oh baby get me, baby movin" as he continued to poke and prod my stomach trying to get the baby to move some more.  Every time the baby would kick-he would squeal "oh no baby get me!" I loved seeing the joy on his face as he got to experience this.  It is one thing for Greg to talk to my stomach and play games with the baby-it is another to see it reenacted in your 2 year old.  Something so sweet and precious about it. I'm so glad that he loves this little one already-I have a feeling we will have to watch him once the baby is unstuck. He is constantly trying to pick Athaiah up and carry her around the house.  Usually the attempts fail and he says "baby sisa heaby" I love the way he talks and loves on his little sister.

Athaiah on the other hand has no clue what is coming her way.  She is definitely a mommy's girl and isn't quite so happy to share me even with her big brother.  It may take a bit of adjustment for her, since she will have to share a lot more of my attention.  We are blessed that she is already a busy girl and will probably be walking by the time the new baby gets here, hopefully that will keep her busy enough!

Our new little one so far is right between the two kids in how they acted while in my belly-I'm excited to meet it and get to know it's personality.  This one moves pretty consistently but not an over achiever by any means.  Elijah didn't ever stop moving and Athaiah moved twice a day to readjust her position.  It has been fun to see how different 3 pregnancies so close together can be! A great reminder that every child is different and unique and made according to God's purposes!  I look forward to finding out what this little one is...we are keeping it a secret this time, which has honestly been so much fun!!  I kind of like not knowing what to expect-something different....and at the same time a huge leap of faith for anyone that really knows Greg and I.  We are planners and like to know everything ahead of time so we can figure stuff out and have a game plan.  Not this time-we are winging everything.  This time I will hopefully be able to have my baby naturally-although if God plans differently we are very much ok with that....so because of that we do not know the date or time this baby will come. And like I said before the sex of the baby will also be a surprise.  I get more excited the closer it gets! We shall see if I can make it to the due date this time.  A lot of people don't think that will happen.

I have a lot of humor this pregnancy-but I guess I have to...I'm pretty big this pregnancy compared to my last 2 but I have had them all close and am still within normal weight range. I have had plenty of people tell me I'm going to pop any day and plenty of people question as to if I'm having twins!  I actually don't mind the comments- I tell them I must be having another Elijah!! I love fat babies and would gladly take another one!  I have way more to worry about then how big I am...After all according to the Dr. I'm doing great.  I have gained 19 lbs and I'm currently measuring 29.5" and I'm 28 weeks, so really I'm not doing awful.  I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old to chase around and they keep me plenty busy and they are way more important to me than worrying about how big I am.  I have sleepless nights and sometimes endless days.  I have learned I can only rely on God and His strength to get me through.  I have needed him more and more as our lives become a bit crazier.  I'm looking forward to everything that God has planned for our little crazy family!  We can't wait to meet you baby #3!
