I have found the easiest way to do this is in the microwave!
Cut an Acorn Squash in half and scoop out all the seeds
Place in a microwave safe pan and heat for about 13min
Let cool for a few minutes so you don't burn your fingers
Scoop out all the insides and place in a blender
Add about 10 oz of water to start-you may need to add more if it is too thick to blend
Blend, when all smooth pour into ice cube trays and Freeze
When they are all frozen place in Ziploc bag with the name of the item and the date!

Boa Scarf
I decided to make a boa like scarf out of some extra yarn that I had for my little step-sister to be able to play dress up with.
There you have it simple as that, and cute too if I must say so myself.
I skein Fun fur type yarn (now I took my one end for the inside and my one end from the outside and knit them together to make it a bit thicker so that the needles holes didn't show through and it made it a bit fluffier and more boa like!)
Size 5 knitting needles

Chuggington Train or Car
I made this adorable train out of Felt, and I had so much fun!! We gave it to one of our second cousins for Christmas.
1.5yds of Red Felt (or color of your choice)
.5 yds of Black Felt
.25 yds of White Felt
Next comes the sewing and there is quite a bit of it just a heads up. I sewed two of each circle together, so I could lightly stuff them, so leave a small opening so you can add some stuffing. Once I filled them, I sewed up the last little bit by hand. If you are making a train you don't want them too big as trains don't really have thick wheels. If you are going to use this idea to make a car, then stuff them full and you may want to make the circles a bit bigger.
Now you are going to sew up that seam. I used black thread here, so you could see it a little bit easier.
Here are both of the trains that I made, with the book that he got!
1.5yds of Red Felt (or color of your choice)
.5 yds of Black Felt
.25 yds of White Felt
First, I cut out the shape of the side of the train, I guessed with this as I only had a picture off the Internet to go by. I cut out two of these pieces. I then cut a long piece of felt 6" wide and about 32" long to attach to these as the middle piece. I also cut out all the wheels, I used one of the covers for my little man's bottles since they were bigger and a perfect circle. (I put 4 wheels on each side, so that was 16 circles that I cut out of the black felt). I also cut out some black pieces to attach the wheels to the train, I used the parts between the circles that were left on the felt.
For the main part of the train you are going to always keep the long piece straight, DON"T TURN IT, only turn the shape of the train. I started half way on the bottom of the train and started sewing. Now remember when you get the the corner, just move the foot of the sewing machine up and move just the shape of the train so that it lines up nice again. Below is a picture, but it is kind of hard to show in picture form.
When you are all done with that one side the train should look like this. Now the middle, straight part looks funny but that is because it is standing up on it so you could see the train shape. Looks pretty good!
Next, you are going to take the other side of the train and pin it to the straight piece. Make sure you line these up correctly or you will end up with a really funny looking train. The hardest part is probably making sure everything lines up good. Then sew that side. Oh I forgot to mention earlier I used 1/4 in seams, sorry about that. This is what it should look like when both sides are done!
Now if you notice at the bottom you should have a hole left where the two ends come together, this is intentional, as now we are going to stuff it, so it maintains the wonderful shape.
Before you stuff it tuck in those ends a bit so that when you sew it up it is a bit easier and you don't have to try and jam them in there with the stuffing. Just a hint! Now you are going to sew up that seam. I used black thread here, so you could see it a little bit easier.
You now have the base of your train all finished. So here comes the fun part, attaching all the decorations. Because this is a cute train, I made a face for it out of white and black felt pieces. I then also made the side decorations. (I put all of these on before attaching the wheels so I knew where to place the wheels). You can attach these by either hand sewing on all the pieces or you can hot glue them on. I used the hot glue, and then I put the wheels on by hand sewing because I wanted those to be a bit more secure.
Pretty cute huh?
For the wheels, I first sewed the spacer(I don't know what to call the thing that connects the wheels together so we are going with that since it is an easy word) to one wheel and then to the other. Do this for all the wheels so you could have two wheels connected to each spacer. I then hand sewed them on to the train evenly spaced on each side so they matched.
I think it turned out quite nice for a first attempt at something like this. I was really pleased with the outcome and I think he was too. Here are both of the trains that I made, with the book that he got!
Stain Remover
This works wonders on all kinds of stains that come with babies, so it has been tested on almost everything under the sun. It even got blueberry throw up out of a white comforter!
1/2 c hydrogen peroxide
1/2 c baking soda
water
Mix the baking soda, peroxide, and a small amount of water in a bowl. When the baking soda is well mixed, pour into a squirt bottle and fill the rest of the way up with water. Before you use it each time you will need to shake it up, but it works wonderful!

Facewash
I have always had really bad acne, and have never found a face wash or scrub that works. I have been trying to get it under control since I was a teenager. Unfortunately with this pregnancy it just got worse, so I was willing to try just about anything. So with nothing to loose, and after reading about it I decided to try honey! Yep you read that right HONEY! And let me tell you what, it is the most amazing this I have ever used and I don't have a single pimple on my face! Do you know how long it has been since I have been able to say that? It is wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone who has any type of skin problem. After all what do you have to loose?

Tutu
I made my adorable little sister a tutu for Christmas since she loves to play dress up!
All you need is
Ribbon- 60inches
Tulle- 1.5 yds light pink, and 2 yds hot pink
Cut the Ribbon to 60 inches. Tie a knot 20in in on each side. The section between the two knots is where you are going to tie all the tulle to the ribbon. Then you have two long ends to tie together around the waist.
Lay the tulle out so that is has the natural fold (just like it does when it comes off the bolt), roll up from the folded side so that it is a long roll.
Cut the tulle every three inches, Then you unroll them all and cut them all in half. Take the strips of tulle, fold them over the ribbon and make a knot, around the ribbon. Continue this until all of the tulle is used up. I then spread them out slightly along the ribbon. This makes a very fluffy skirt!

First Christmas Cookie
Here is a couple of pictures of my adorable little man eating his first Christmas cookie! I think he really enjoyed it, what do you think?
Christmas Cookies
I love to bake, and one of my favorite things to bake are sugar cookies. There is just something that I find so relaxing about the whole thing and it really gets me into the holiday spirit. So I am going to give you my favorite cookie recipe, it is from one of my taste of home magazines, but I tweak it quite a bit. I actually have two that I bake, so I guess I can give you both!
Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies: (4 dozen)
1 c butter, softened
1/2 tsp almond extract
2 1/4 c flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
In a large bowl cream the butter, sugar, and cream cheese until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg yolk and extracts
Combine flour and baking soda, slowly add to the wet mixture.
Cover and Refrigerate until it is easy to handle (about 1-2 hrs)
On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough, and cut with cookie cutters!
Place on a baking stone or cookie sheet (I prefer the stone as it keeps them really soft)
Bake at 350 for about 10min. (I like mine pale still so they melt in your mouth, with no crunch, but firm enough that you can frost them.)
Cool and then Decorate as you wish!-This is my favorite part

Creativity
My creative juices have been flowing like crazy with the holidays coming up. So I will have quite a bit of posts coming. Unfortunately a lot of them are Christmas presents so they will be posted after they have been given. Just wanted to keep everyone informed that I am very hard at work, but they must stay a secret until after Christmas. So keep your eyes open as there will be a lot more to come!
Containers
I love the way that the frosted containers looked, when they have the names etched on them such as flour, sugar, and so on. But I am way too cheap to spend the money on them. So I bought a 4 piece set of containers on sale for $12, much better than the normal $25 or higher. I then also got a can of frosted glass spray paint-this was also on sale for $3, and I'm sure I will find some other uses for this great new friend! Got out some of my scrapbook stickers and got to work.
First I put the letters onto the container to spell what I wanted to label them as.
I only labeled two of the jars, one flour and the other sugar. As I am not quite sure what I want to put in the other two, but am content with them having no labels. I just wanted some nice containers to put on my kitchen counter once my kitchen is finished!
First I put the letters onto the container to spell what I wanted to label them as.
Second I taped off a box around the letters and then put newspaper all around it so that it would not spray the rest of the jar.
Third, I sprayed the jar with the frosted glass spray paint.
Forth, when the paint was still a bit tacky I removed the letters and allowed it to finish drying.
Fifth, I enjoyed my new project. Just what I wanted at a much lower cost.

Wake up call!
It has been a bit of a rough week in this house. The hubby is sick and no offense to him, but when he is sick he snores so loud making it difficult for me to fall asleep. Because of this small problem I have gone to bed no sooner than 1am TWICE this week. Not too good for a pregnant mommy, who needs some extra sleep.
Since I was already lacking in the sleep department the little man has decided that he is not going to sleep well either. So the other night he was up from 11:30-1:30am! YIKES. Talk about a tired mommy, he then decided it was a good idea to be up for the day at 6:30 and that no naps were needed for the day. This made for a very, very tired mommy.
I am still not quite sure what went wrong or why he was so upset because he cried off and on for the whole 2 hours even while holding him. We gave him some Tylenol, since daddy is sick, and on top of that it looks like he may be getting another tooth in any day. Then we gave him a few ounces of milk to see if maybe he was just a little extra hungry. No luck with either of those. Finally exhausted beyond belief, I took him back upstairs to his room and rocked and rocked and rocked. He fell asleep while we were rocking... and I almost did. He laid down so nice in his bed, and mommy slept on the couch just in case he were to get up again, and also to get some good sleep with no snoring.
As much as it was awful at the moment, I wouldn't trade it for the world. I got some great quality time in the middle of the night with a wonderful little snuggle bug. I just don't hope it returns anytime soon. I mean really who can resist that cute face even if it is in the middle of the night!

Silly guy...
The little man just keeps getting bigger and bigger. It is hard to believe he is 10mo old now and has his first tooth. He doesn't really move too much, he has the army crawl down but only in reverse, and then he will scoot around on his bottom a bit if he wants to go forward. He refuses to put any weight on his feet which I find really humorous...reminds me of a certain sister of mine!
He loves his puppy! I'm so glad that the two of them truly get along so well, they are best buddies and they seem to keep each other very entertained. In fact, first thing in the morning when I get him up mommy gets a big hug and kiss, and then he starts looking over my shoulder for his doggy. Then he has to get down and give the puppy a hug and kiss, it is quite funny!
This is him after some blueberry crepes, he seemed to love them, but he loves his food. I don't think we have found a food yet that he doesn't like! You can see a little tooth in this picture too, if you look close!

Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan.

Baby Mittens
This is a pattern for some Knit Baby Mittens, I had a really hard time finding a pattern that I could do for a 10 month old and was just knit on two needeles. I'm not too fond of knitting on double pointed needles or in the round for such small projects. I prefer to just knit them straight and then sew up the seams.
You will need yarn (I used Homespun in brown), Size 3 and Size 5 Needles, 2 stitch holders, and 2 stitch markers, and a sewing needle for yarn. This is a fairly easy pattern as you just repeat it for the other hand!
Row 10 (Change to size 5 needles) inc in 1st st, knit until last st, in 1 in last st

Sweet Potatoes
I usually make about 2 sweet potatoes at a time although you can do as many as you would like. Sweet Potatoes are really easy to make and thank goodness because my little man absolutely loves them. You can also use yams if you can't find any sweet potatoes as they are interchangeable.
Set the oven to 350. Wash the potatoes, and poke some holes in them so they can steam. Then you are going to place them in the oven. I would put a cookie sheet or something below them as some of the sugary goodness does seep out and you don't want to have to clean the whole oven out after cooking these. They will need to cook anywhere from 1-3 hrs depending on how many are in the oven and how big they are. I find with 2 it usually takes about 1.5hrs.
When they are done baking you simply slide them out of the skins and put them in the blender.(They will be hot so if you need to let them cook for a bit please do as we don't want any burnt fingers.) Now they are smooth but my blender has a hard time mashing them together and I found that it takes about 12oz of water in order for my blender to work. But even with this much water they still turn out quite thick. Then spoon into ice cube trays and freeze. Once they are frozen move to freezer bags and label.
The other way that you can make them is you can peel them, and then cook them in the microwave until soft. Or you can microwave them with the skins on. It is really up to you how you want to cook them. I just prefer the oven, because I throw those in there first and then I work on all the other baby food while they are cooking.

Now they are smooth but my blender has a hard time mashing them together and I found that it takes about 12oz of water in order for my blender to work.
Apples-Pears
I am putting these two together because they are done the exact same way!
First you are going to peel the fruit be it the apple or the pear. Then I usually slice them both with an apple slicer since it will take the core out. Then I cut it into small pieces, so that it cooks faster, I can be a bit impatient. Take a pan and your veggie steamer and fill the bottom of the pan with enough water to just touch the bottom of the veggie steamer. Place the fruit in the steamer, cover will a lid. Cook until soft. Just make sure that the water in the bottom of your pan doesn't run out or it will burn since they are both very sweet fruits. When they are done cooking pour into your blender, mix with some of the water from the bottom of the pan about 4oz or so. Blend!
Then you just pour it into the ice cube trays and freeze. When they are set about 4hrs, then move them to a freezer bag and label. And you have some nice homemade fruit!
This is what it should look like when done, exactly like applesauce.Note: I prefer to use Gala apples since they are sweet but not too sweet and Bartlet pears, but you can use whatever kind you like. The more water you add the runnier it will be, so the younger the baby the more water you should add, but they are both soft fruits and should blend pretty easy without too much water.

Bananas
Bananas are probably one of the easiest baby foods to make. You simply take off the peel, I then put it in the blender because I normally make a lot at a time. Add a bit of water, so that it mixes better. Then once it is all blended I pour it into my ice cube trays. Once they are formed, which usually takes about 4 hours, then I take them out of the ice cube trays and put them in a freezer bag with the name and the date on it.
*One bunch of bananas these days make about 2 ice cube trays worth. Now in the beginning they made more because I added more water so that it was easier for him, but now he can eat thicker consistencies just fine.

Drain Declogger
OK so I have spent a ton of money trying to get my shower drain to stay clear and drain properly. I have tried everything from the most expensive to the least and non of them seemed to work longer than 2 days. I would even plunge after I had rinsed everything hoping that might help it longer, but it was all a waste of time and money. I also was not allowed to use them myself because I was/am pregnant so I had to wait until my wonderful husband got home so he could do it which seemed really unfair.
Once again homemade comes to the rescue! Pour 1 cup baking soda down the drain, follow with 2 cups of vinegar. Some where that I read said it works better if you heat the vinegar slightly. I did just for kicks and giggles. It gets all foamy and cool when you poor it on the baking soda. Then you wait at least an hour and follow with about a gallon of warm-hot water.
Let me tell you what, I did this a month ago and my shower still has yet to back up or for a puddle to form in the tub while showering. Amazing and super cheap, and I can do it myself because there are no harsh chemicals in it. Couldn't ask for anything better!

Kitchen Redo-Part 2
So I have stained all the bottom drawers and put the new hardware on. Here is what it looks like now! (I still have to do all the cabinet doors)
It will probably be awhile before we can put the new trim in, as we will probably put in a new back door at the same time, since it is in really rough shape. But I am ok with the trim being off as long as it needs to be as long as I can still have a functioning kitchen. And last time I checked the trim does not affect how a kitchen is used, so we should be fine!!
I still have the cabinets in the back of the kitchen to do, so they match the front but I am not in as much of a hurry to get those done, since you can't see them right when you walk in. We shall see what I can get done this coming week and weekend. Maybe I can get the walls finished and painted and those cabinet doors done finally.
I repainted the back wall in this picture light grey and then the overhang, is now a silver/grey color slightly darker than the wall. The rest of the walls are going to be white, but there is some more mudding that needs to be done on them before I can prime and paint those. I just was anxious to see what the walls would start to look like so I painted the walls that I could! I am really liking how everything s coming together. I can't wait to get the flooring down.

Homemade Baby Food
Baby food is so easy to make and is way cheaper than buying it in jars or pouches....so why wouldn' I make it! When I added up the cost of it it comes out to be about 4-7cents an ice cube. When you are just starting a baby out they only eat about 1 ice cube at a time, so this turns out to be really economical figuring a can of baby food is at the least 48 cents a jar. I will post all my stand bys that I use such as the basic foods that babies eat. Just remember to only introduce one new food every 3 days, this will help you to detect if your baby has any allergies. So come on and join me in the fun and in the savings.
PS. All you need is some ice cube trays, a blender, some freezer bags(a sharpie to mark them with), and then the food-Pretty simple huh??

Homemade Flea Spray
So flea treatment is really expensive so it got me searching high and low for something I could use that is a bit cheaper than Frontline, since we have 3 pets that need it that gets really expensive to pay for that treatment every month. I found something that caught my eye! Well actually two things!
That's right lemons! When life gives you lemons make lemonade, well sort of. You boil some water and then you add 6-8 lemons all sliced. Let them set over night, add to a spray bottle. Spray all the animals down good. You can also use this on furniture and carpeting or any where else you may be afraid there may be an infestation. There is something in the lemons that kills the fleas, so this will kill any live ones that are on your pets. Use daily for a week to keep them at bay and spray down everything and vacuum daily emptying the vacuum outside so they do not get away in your house again in case any of them did not die in the process.
The next one is a repellent. Vinegar water! That's right fleas hate the smell of vinegar so if you spray your pets down with this it will keep the fleas away once you have all the current ones killed. This makes me so happy and it seems to be working really well.
Also a good soap to wash your pet in if they have fleas, is Dawn so figure. It also kills fleas and it sticks to them so when you wash the soap off you wash all the fleas down the drain with it. I use Dawn soap to wash all my dishes so this definitely will save me money instead of going out and buying that expensive flea shampoo.
Alright, so that was three, but they are all amazing and seem to be working so well, it makes me so happy!
Don't judge, I did research on why we were having such a flea problem. Turns out they like shaded areas, and guess what my whole back yard it shaded and that is where we let Decafe out to go to the bathroom, so there is pretty much no way around it except to keep all the animals treated. You can also spray all of these in your yard and it is supposed to keep them at bay and kill the current ones. I haven't done that yet since it is starting to get cold and they normally disappear then, but come summer you can bet your money my whole yard will smell like lemon and vinegar!

Kitchen Redo-Part 1
So the first thing I decide to tackle was all the cabinet bases, so we have everything in boxes around the kitchen and all over the dining room table. Messy which drives me nutty, but gives me motivation to try and get it done asap! So here is a picture of the base sanded down. I didn't know it had such good looking wood underneath all the ugliness. It was quite a bit of work even though I used an electric sander, but it tore through the sandpaper as there was a lot of uneven parts in the wood and some nicks that I sanded out. I also sanded them so they are a bit rough and more natural feeling. I like it feeling like real wood and not so smooth like most cabinets are. So I used 80 grit sandpaper and did not go over it with a finer sandpaper as my wise husband told me a professional would do. I told him I didn't want it to look that way, he doesn't seem to convinced yet. We'll see if I can win him over in the end. Watch for some stain pictures coming soon as that is what I have been working on this past weekend. Hopefully the front cabinets will be done by this coming weekend so then we can work on the other cabinets next weekend or get the walls painted so they match a little better! I'm having so much fun with this project!
Kitchen Redo- Before
So I have absolutely hated my kitchen since we bought our house. It is long and skinny aka a galley kitchen. But everything set up in it is very funny, almost like it used to look a lot different but Greg and I cannot figure out what they did and why. Any way, when we moved in we decided to just paint it and ignore it because it would need a lot of work to make it look better. So desperate because I didn't like how it looked and that is where I spend a lot of my time, I kept looking for ways to redo a kitchen for cheap, how to refinish cabinets and so on. Well we finally figured out what to do as we were browsing through Home Depot one day. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!! We found some really cheap flooring, and ours before was awful. Then we found some pale blue tinted stain for the cabinets, so we decided to strip them down to the bare wood and start all over again. I then had leftover pale gray paint and some white paint left so we the walls would be that color. I was good with those changes, but then Greg suggested that we rip out the old trim and put in new(we have ripped out the old, but it will take awhile before we have money for the new). Let me just say again, I'm so excited about all these changes I think it is going to make our kitchen look so much brighter since it looked like a dark hole before. So here are some before pictures so you know what I am working with and when I say everything was dark you will see what I mean.
These are the dark cabinets that are everywhere, just not my favorite color and original to the house as they are all funny sizes. So we just made do with them by refinishing them. Plus one gallon of stain is much cheaper than all new cabinets.
